Not just Oxygen.

Creative Commons License
Not just Oxygen by Avantika is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.

Trees are not only for oxygen. Other than bearing fruits, trees have held great value and respect in old tales and myths. Back then nobody knew about carbon dioxide or oxygen or any of the science stuff. Trees were given meaning, they were treated as gods and were worshipped.
We all are aware of the concept of the Tree of Life, other examples (according to Wikipedia) of tree worship across different religions are the Banyan tree and Peepal tree in Hinduism, the Tree of Knowledge in Christianity and Judaism, the Bodhi tree in Buddhism and the Christmas tree in Germanic mythology.

To think that trees are only here for us is kind of selfish, it's good to know that trees have held so much importance in the past so why not give them the same now? Not for our own purpose but for them.

This is a shot of my friend, he is actually very short, but he will look tall if we see it from a different angle, just as how we are living now, even though sometimes we faced difficulties, but if we look at it from a different angle, you may see hope.

Protected yet Imprisoned

Protected yet Imprisoned by Jesslyn Tan is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.
There are times when you feel so much pain and anguish that you never wish to experience it again. So you build a wall around yourself to protect you. And i don't mean the wall as in the visible slab of concrete that keeps you safe from the outside, the wall which you can easily break. The wall I speak of is but a mere figment of imagination that cannot be seen by anyone except the holder themselves, and it cannot be broken as easily as one might think. For in order to break them, you need to break the very person who built them up.

You put up the wall not only to keep yourself from hurting others, but also to keep others from hurting you.

But there are consequences to putting such things around you. For the longer you put them up, the longer you isolate yourselves from those around you. You would wish to open yourself up and let others in, but because you're afraid of the past repeating itself, you stop yourself from doing so, and it not only hurts yourself, but those around you as well.  And in the end, even though you're with your friends or in a crowd, you can still feel the loneliness inside you. And now, the very wall that you put up to protect yourself, becomes the very thing that imprisons you, that stops you from moving forward.

This is the meaning behind the picture that i show you. The glass heart shows the fragility of your own, and the cage represents the wall that I speak of. The wall that protects you, and the wall that imprisons you.

Old and New

This is a photo taken from the void deck of my block one day when I was going back home. A lift renovation was being carried out at my block recently. The one on the left is the old lift and the one on the right is the newly renovated lift. It relates to me in a way that even an art piece from the past can be redesign, having the functions and concept of it staying the same, the atmosphere being created is different all together. Reminding me of the ever changing world we live in today, will become a history for the future to take reference and make better changes in their lives.

Addicted portray my strong liking and constant craving for ice-cream. It is so strong that whatever I see around my surrounding becomes one. Ice-cream is one of my favorite pastime treats since I was young as it assists me in alleviating my mood be it a happy day or a sad day. Thus, bright colors were widely used to express the positive feeling I feel from eating ice-cream. Which I hope to bring to people when they look at Addicted.

This was a fashion event that i went on 17 Oct 2013, it was FIDé Fashion Runway, Marina Bay Sands Convention & Exhibition Center Hall F. The event was organised over the course of the last four seasons, FIDé Fashion Weeks has established Singapore as the third city in the world to have a dedicated men’s fashion week after Paris and Milan. It also created the only Couture Week outside of Paris to feature couturiers endorsed by La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. The end result is Singapore now offers a unique blend of Asian designers, couture designers and ready-to-wear collections. FIDé’s efforts in producing these remarkable fashion weeks have helped to elevate Singapore to its current position in the rarified club of fashion cities.

This interactive art project; Rewind whom is done by Pauline Saglio revives the perspective of time which can be flexible yet imaginative ever since Digital Revolution started and Rewind embraces that non-chalent, playful emotion in retrospective of that ordinary clock. Therefore, the movements of the hands of the clocks are replaced with living, digitalised objects we see in our everyday lives. Each mechanism and movement is wired differently based on how much the user rewinds to. This interactive clock also gives a cheeky yet nostalgic vibe when it recharges or winds and these codes draws in childhood memories and make it come alive yet a joy to experiment with it.

Klompen is a traditional all-wooden clogs from The Netherlands, which are daily used by Dutch people, like farmers, market gardeners, and flower gardeners. When I tried to wear Klompen, it is not quite comfortable to wear it, because being made entirely of wood, it is very heavy, and has a hard base. However, these clogs have been officially credited as safety shoes which can withstand most sharp objects and concentrated acids. Klompen is seen in almost any souvenir shops in Amsterdam. They are handmade, and painted beautifully and colorfully.

His name is Picasso and I find it rather fitting.I took this photo two years ago  for a photography competition. I gave the title as  it " Monochrome Picasso".  The color palette gives this warm vibe and Picasso's eyes stare into your soul.

This picture shows a skull with an array of coloured paper coming out from its mouth . Personally I feel that these coloured paper represent words . Words in general can be both encouraging and oppressive depending on how it is used . The coloured paper also represent great ideas when we speak it out and express what is on our minds , how it can help others .Though we may look dull on the outside , our mind is actually very creative and colourful , thus it is importantly that we constantly express ourselves .

Nature is Art

Creative Commons License
Beauty of Nature by Muhd Sufi is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License.

This picture was taken at Sentosa, Singapore during sunset.
In this fast pacing world, with concrete walls and structures, we often forget about thinking of our nature which has always thought of us. Everybody claims to be so 'busy' these days. We think that it is a waste of time and energy to go outside, take a walk, relax, appreciate the beauty of nature. It often seems to us that nature is boring in comparison to our life which is supposedly very 'dynamic'. But according to me, I feel that when I am close to nature, I find my peace of mind. I feel more relaxed which is why I do not feel as stressed as my classmates when it comes to doing work. I feel that the stress is balanced and I can think more clearly. Nature is beautiful. Everything about nature is beautiful. It hurts me to see people not appreciating nature. They have been losing a lot in their lives. They do not realise the true value of nature. Some artist wanted to paint like this scenery and some of them had did already. They should find time to appreciate nature more of it's inspiring beauty.

This photo of flowers was taken on the roadside with my sister and grandfather while we were picking peaches. Although this flower is small, it is very attractive to me. Especially after it just rained, its colour is very beautiful, and the shape is also outstanding. This beauty is created by the nature. Absolutely, the nature creates a lot of outstanding things, and brought many interesting elements to the artistic creation. Artists made used of the elements of nature to create a lot of great works. These artworks then influence the later generations of artists.

This picture was taken the last time I went to my grandfather's home before coming to Singapore. Since then i didn't have much chances to visit my grandfather's house and I miss my hometown very much.

Life After Rain

A photographer, usually thinks about the result of their photo; does it turned out good or bad, how is the lighting of the something that have been took, and so on. This picture that I took was when I went to a trip to Switzerland. It's true that the beauty there is spectacular and feels really fresh. While strolling around a city, I found this bunch of flowers in front of a building. In a speed of light, I took out my camera and shot this pair of orange-peach colored flower. It still got the rain drops hanging on the petal. From my view, I suddenly thought of something really nice where a flower soaked with rain drops seems like a new beginning of life; a new light, a new journey, a new life. While thinking of this, the beauty of nature really makes a person become alive. It gave us a new strength when we lost it. It gave s the meaning of life when we forgot about it. Somehow and Somewhat reflect people of how we should have done, just like how the rain drops reflect the beauty of this flower it self. That's why, there is a saying which "Light came after darkness", same as the life of a flower came after the rain.

A Colourful Life

Creative Commons License

A girl's wallet says so much about her life.
This collage of the regular residents of my wallet was created out of boredom and curiosity.
I have never realised that I owned many colourful things until I stripped down my wallet to its last cent.
I have always been so attracted to colours  since I was a child so I decided to arrange them based on the colour spectrum. I love how colourful the photograph turns out to be.
Maybe this is another reason why I collected all these stuff apart from their importance in my life, it's the colourful colour!

After I took the photograph, I came to realise that I just created a piece of spontaneous artwork. It never occured to me that an artwork could be created in such a short time.
The whole process of doing it was also so much fun and I learned a new thing about myself through out.
Sometimes it really does not take much to create an artwork, as long as there are curiosity and passion, an artwork is born!

Can't be denied that everyone have their imaginary friends or second personality.
Since one human being can feel lonely by himself,
this piece of artwork of mine made based on my lonely feeling,
then comes into my mind about this crazy idea to make my second personality, it can be called as anthromorphic character in which you can see a white tiger inside of me,
so, from those idea I try to make an unique digital photo editing
in which I mix a picture of mine with a picture of a white tiger
and this is the result
